CAGwiki talk:Requested articles

Retailer articles/categories
Do we want articles about retailers? We could have an article for each retailer; the article would give an overview of the retailer and link to other articles about the retailer. For example, an article about EB Games could link to the Edge Card article and to articles about EB Games news (merger with Gamestop, for example) and memorable sales.
We could also have a Retailers category, with a subcategory for each retailer. Any article about a retailer (news or memorable sales, for example) could belong to that retailer's subcategory.
Any thoughts? Wet Ninja 12:22, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- Sounds reasonable. We could even have things like history of a given retailer honoring their online price mistakes (vs. just cancelling the orders), if they price match, etc. wubb (talk) 12:40, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- I agree... it's good to lay groundwork like that now anyway. For now we could just have some little bit of info, but start linking related articles to the category (can you assign an article to more than one category?). No telling where this wiki will lead in the future and a lot of us probably know from experience how much of a pain it is to retrofit everything when you add a new level of info later on. --botticus 12:50, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- Yep, an article can be in more than one category. You just put more than one category tags at the bottom. Take a look at EB trade in values wubb (talk) 17:08, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
Blockbuster/GameRush query:
Should we make Blockbuster the Retailer subcategory, and just link GR articles to that category instead, or even make a sub-subcategory (if possible)? --botticus 15:40, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- Interesting question. You can have sub categories check How to create subcategories I'd say GameRush should be a sub cat to Blockbuster. Although I'm open to debate on that. Kind of a tough call really. Does that mean Game Crazy should be a sub cat to Hollywood Video?
- On a similar note should we make EB a sub category to GameStop now? Not sure on that one. wubb (talk) 17:08, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- GR/BB relationship seems fine. If we feel that Hollywood Video is worth making a category for, then yeah, I would same Game Crazy should follow suit. We may as well do so for consistency, even if its not heavily utilized.
- As far as EB, I'm wondering more if we should just make them the same. Probably a GS category, and everything EB related is part of that category. The difference between this situation and GR or GC is that EB is really GameStop with a different name, rather than a subdivision of GameStop.
- Better yet, keep the EB category as a redirect to the GS category?
- Thoughts? --botticus 17:44, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- I'm not sure if Category redirects work all that well with wiki. I found a discussion about it on Wikipedia and it might be fixed but it wasn't clear. We could just make any EB page part of the GameStop cat and leave it at that? The good thing is that it's very easy to make a category a sub-cat or switch it out from being a sub-cat. wubb (talk) 20:15, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- For EB/GameStop, how about we do this: if the article in question discusses something that happened before GS bought out EB, place it in the EB Games category only. If it happened after, place it in both the EB category and the GS category. How does that sound? Wet Ninja 22:53, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- Works for me... and if the total overhaul ever occurs (all EB Games branded stores are disposed of or renamed), we can move the EB category to a subcategory of GS. --botticus 23:38, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
- Good point. I didn't think of making it a subcategory. We should do that, like you said, if the total rebranding occurs. In the meantime, let's keep them separate. Wet Ninja 23:48, 7 June 2006 (EDT)
Master categories
Should we create a few high-level "master" categories under which to file other categories (and possibly articles)? I was thinking we could have the following master categories: Shopping, Gaming, Community, and CAGwiki.
Shopping would include the following subcategories:
Gaming would include any categories or articles related to gaming news and culture, such as Category:Nintendo and Category:Xbox.
Community would include the following subcategories:
- Category:Best of the forums
- Category:CAG scoops
- Category:CAG trading
- Category:CAGcasts
- Category:Cheapy Awards
- Category:Notable and infamous members
- Category:Projects
- Category:Your Man in Japan
along with any other categories and articles related to the CAG community.
CAGwiki would include pages related to the CAGwiki, such as Requested articles and Category:Stubs
(note that these lists are tentative and would expand as more categories and articles are added)
Any thoughts? Wet Ninja 13:36, 8 June 2006 (EDT)
- I went ahead and created master categories: Category:Shopping, Category:Gaming, Category:Community, and Category:CAGwiki. Wet Ninja (talk) 12:06, 14 June 2006 (EDT)
