Expansion of acronym pages

Several of these acronyms could use their own specific page IMO. Such as YMMV. We'd leave them on this list and make their entry here a link to their specific page. wubb (talk) 13:22, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

It would also be nice if the acronyms that don't have their own page would redirect to this list. wubb (talk) 17:56, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

UPDATE: I noticed evilmax created a page for CIF and made the main page Cash in face with CIF redirecting to it. I thought that seemed better than making the main page the acronym, so let's plan to do that as the standard going forward unless there are objections? wubb (talk) 20:20, 4 June 2006 (EDT)

Split into sections?

Should we split this into 2 sections?

Deal acronyms and Other acronyms

Splitting

Agreed that some of the major acronyms such as YMMV need their own seperate entries, but splitting up the acronyms is kind of a gray area. For example, is GS a deal acronym or a regular acronym? FAR is certainly deal, but what about PH? Seems like things could become confusing, but maybe not.

--evilmax17 15:51, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

I'd say anything that is even mildly deal or shopping related (so PH or GS would qualify) would go in the Deal acronyms (maybe it should be Deal related acronyms) and things that are not deal or shopping related at all (such as QFT, NSFW) would go in Other acronyms. wubb (talk) 17:55, 3 June 2006 (EDT)
I think that if the list is going to be split, it would have to be in more than two lists-- for instance, store acronyms (BB, CC, etc.), game formats (GH, PH, etc.), general deal/shopping related ones (MSRP, FAR, etc.), and general online acronyms (YMMV, etc.). Just makes things a bit clearer --Blueshinra 21:15, 3 June 2006 (EDT)
If someone isn't very sure about an acronym, then this seems like it would make it harder for them to find it. For now, the list isn't that large; perhaps a split would be in order if it gets to be unwieldy in size, but as it stands right now I can easily see the whole list on one screen at 1280x1024 and in my opinion that seems to be more functional than split lists that would involve scrolling and/or page clicking for users. True, we can always just leave the non video game or deal related acronyms to acronym finder. wubb (talk) 22:39, 3 June 2006 (EDT)
If we did split the list, it would probably be helpful to duplicate the acronyms that have different meanings putting them in different groups. But that will also make it longer, of course. Botticus 23:10, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

Filters

Suggest adding a section for the filters. Shaq-Fu, Ninja, etc.--evilmax17 22:23, 3 June 2006 (EDT)

Table or list

I switched this over to table format, but I'm not sure it didn't look better as a simple list? wubb (talk) 13:51, 4 June 2006 (EDT)

Or perhaps we should go with yet another alternative format?

AC
After Coupon
AR
After Rebate

...

This is known as a Definition List on Wikipedia so it may be appropriate to use here? One benefit is that this is perhaps easier for new users to edit than a table.

I see 3 main choices:

Table:

Acronym Definition
AC After Coupon
AR After Rebate

Definition list:

AC
After Coupon
AR
After Rebate

List with mdash seperators:

  • AC — After Coupon
  • AR — After Rebate

Thoughts?

wubb (talk) 16:12, 5 June 2006 (EDT)

For the acronyms, I don't think the Definition List works well (visually). Since both the acronyms and definitions are short, I think both the table or mdash separators are visibily appealing. If I had to choose one, I'd go with the mdash, mostly because again the acronyms/definitions are short/brief. Other thoughts? --moiety 16:24, 5 June 2006 (EDT)
I do tend to like the vertical compactness of the mdash list. wubb (talk) 16:27, 5 June 2006 (EDT)
Went ahead and converted the list to the mdash format. wubb (talk) 09:41, 6 June 2006 (EDT)
